PRETTY GOOD
sooty.m's White Wine list
“Traisental is one of Austria's smallest wine regions, nestled along the banks of the River Traisen, which flows northward into the Danube. It is also the coolest of the Danube regions, often reaching grape maturity two weeks later than its neighbors. This is due to its east-facing vines, which receive only the morning sun, while chill winds sweep up the valley from the Alps. As Europe's vineyards warm, these conditions have become ideal, and Markus Huber crafts such exceptional wines from his indigenous Grüner Veltliner grapes that he earned the title of Best Austrian Wine in 2024. This Grüner is one of his lighter expressions, made from 45-year-old vines grown on tiny terraces carved into the rock. The 2022 vintage ripened late, allowing Huber to preserve all of Grüner Veltliner's freshness—its bright citrus acidity and leafy liveliness perfectly balanced by fruit that remains ripe yet evokes mouthwatering green peach and pear, flecked with limestone savouriness.”
