AMAZING
1st CENDOL
Anak Baba, Kuala Lumpur
(Multiple-shot post. Swipe left for the inside view of the cendol) “Homemade fragrant dark green cendol served with shaved ice and flavoured by fresh coconut milk and gula melaka.” ~ One of the best, if not the best cendol I have had in a very long time. The coconut milk was thick and creamy and the gula melaka was dark and rich. And homemade cendol means cendol that is naturally flavoured and coloured by pandan leaves, not some artificial neon-green food flavouring or dye. This definitely hit the spot.
REALLY GOOD
2nd CENDOL
Auntie Ling's Nyonya Cendol, Petaling Jaya
Too often I’ve heard people say that a cendol is good solely because of the gula melaka. I disagree because a cendol should be the perfect balance of aromatic gula melaka, creamy santan and fragrant pandan cendol. Auntie Ling’s has managed to achieve that with their blend of 3 different kinds of gula melaka, fresh santan and homemade cendol. It’s a bit expensive for a food court but well worth it in our books.
3rd MUM'S FAVOURITE CENDOL
Wondermama, Kuala Lumpur
Santan and gula melaka. Two things that one cannot stinge on in a cendol. Wondermama definitely got this right with the generous amount of both ingredients in this luscious bowl of shaved ice dessert.
PRETTY GOOD
4th ORIGINAL CENDOL
Bibik House Chendol, Melaka
Recommended by one of the shops nearby. It’s ok la, boleh makan. The gula melaka is good, and there are pots of it on the tables if you want to add more. But the green cendol bits could be better. It’s also very expensive at RM10 a bowl.
5th CENDOL
Hasan's Rojak & Cendol, Petaling Jaya
Gotta admit, this used to be a lot better. Still, it’s worth giving it a go if you’re around the area and in need of something cold. I reckon it’s better than the one in Taman Bahagia.
6th CENDOL
Big Baba (Happy Mansion) AG-02, Petaling Jaya
Shaved ice with coconut milk, pandan starched jelly noodles and palm sugar. Could do without the grass jelly and kidney beans. Also, please skip the ice kacang here. Way too much shaved ice and it’s too tightly packed together. Overall I still prefer dining at their outlet in Section 11. Service and food seems a little bit better there.
JUST OK
8th D24 CENDOL
DurianMan 榴莲鮮生 SS2, Petaling Jaya
It’s not really that bad as a cendol but boy, did I overpay for this. And for 3 small ‘pods’ of D24. People, don’t be stupid like me and pay so much money for this. Just buy the whole fruit instead. You will get more satisfaction (and calories) from it.
