Otak-Otak. Had 3 of these.

Popped this in the microwave for 5 minutes and voila! Tasty, albeit cough-inducing spicy shrimp otak otak. This was surprisingly good given that I hadn't liked the frozen otak otak blocks I'd tried in the past.

“Spicy tenggiri (mackerel) fish fillet served in mixed spiced custard, coconut milk) wrapped in banana leaf.” SOOT’S TAKE: Best dish of the evening. Loved the combination of otak otak and the pickled veg on the side. 4.5/5.

Thai-style otak otak. I like that generous slices of coconut flesh have been incorporated into the dish.

Piquant! There’s just something about the Otak Otak in Muar that’s different!

They were disappearing fast. The vendor had to limit the number each person could purchase.

Sweet & spicy in a Thai way. It's like Thai otak but made with chicken instead of fish.

One of the better dishes on the table with very generous servings of seafood and cabbage, although I would have preferred more coconut flesh.

Followed Malcolm Lee’s take on otah, a dish of spicy steamed or grilled fish paste. If I was being true to his version, it’d be “delicate and luxurious, compared to the fierce street variety.” Let’s just say this was fiercer and more street because I used dory (instead of cod) and the arbol chiles I inadvertently used for the spice paste more than cleared my sinuses. 🥵

I was impressed with the substantial amount of fillet in this otak otak. Definitely a first for me.

Not the best I’ve had. It was too salty.
